general advice - [Zoe]

Hi!
I'm a second year uni student and whenI finish my degree next year me and a friend are hoping to go travelling for between 6 months and a year. We would be first time independant travellers and would just like to get some advice on where are the best places to go, what sort of amount of money we need to save to get us started, that sort of stuff! We have family in Australia and Italy, are those good countries to start? If anyone could help us or point us in the direction of some useful web pages or other organisations, that'd be really good. Cheers! Zoe

Hi Zoe!

you know it's difficult to be of any help because it's not clear to me what kind of travel to you intend to do, I mean: which kind of things/experiences would you like to see/have more? I can not be sure but it look like you come from the States, would you like to have a broad European travel (see many nations, towns places) or concentrate on a few places? or maybe you would like to move also a bit to North Africa or maybe also Middle East...?

Just tell me a bit more about how you want (imagine) your travel and maybe I could be of some help... ;-)

Good luck anyway

Thanks Oblo for replying!
Sorry my message was a little vague! Actually I'm from England, a bit weird to hear I sound American!!
I guess I was a little vague as I'm not all that sure what I want to do, all I know is that I want to take the chance to travel while I have it. I think to start off travelling through Europe, possibly inter-railing through France, Spain, Italy, and down to Greece and Turkey. From their I'm not sure, I'm quite interested in getting down to India and Nepal, but I'm not sure the friend who maybe coming with me will be up for that! I know it sounds a bit cliched but from this I just want to gain a feeling of independence. I want to actually see the countries not just the tourist hotspots, and I'm really interested in history and culture. We thought maybe going to australia would be a good idea as we have heard that it can be easier to get work there, as though we don't really want to spend allour time working we realise that we are going to have to do some to just to be able to continue. We aim to be away for a year.
i don't know if that helps or not, i realise i'm still being quite vague, but if you can help us at all, just telling us of your experiances would be great if nothing else
thanks again
