Hi, I am interested in visiting Egypt at some stage next summer. If anyone has been there and can give me any info or hints on the region around the pyramids, it would be very welcome. Also any tips on accomodation and safety would come in handy. Thanks.

Hi,
the region around the pyramids is called Giza and isn't so far from Cairo(half hour by car).You could go there easily, booking a trip from your hotel.I suggest you to stay in an hotel in Cairo,if you want to visit Giza.Best for you to reserve the room from your country.Anyway, many years ago I stayed in Al Nabila Cairo Hotel and this was cheap.Try on the web at FODOR'S.
No problem for you safety, (integralism?) in this country, at the moment.
About health,just drink mineral water.
