RoutesHow to get to be known
You may have realised a very nice site, it doesn't mean, for this reason, that thousands of people will come to visit it: to visit a site we need to know the address, to get to know it someone must tell us or, better, someone must recommand it to us as something near to our interests.
We're going to see here below how it can happen in the Internet.
- Searching engines:
- Surely you know them: you give to them some keywords and they tell you which are the sites that contains them, simple and clever.
However all these engines will know nothing about your site till you don't tell them. It's you that must tell them: you must practically register you site by them.
How should I do? You need to go to the site of the searching engine and there find the page where you may point out your address; some searching engines only ask for that, with some others it's possible to supply more info about your pages.

- Metatext
- When you are pointing out your presence to a searching engine you should endow your text of a good metatext. This is the name of a particular portion of the page which is not visible by people visiting it, but which contains info very important for the searching engine: when the engine will send its virtual spider to visit the page, this one will catch all the informations included in the metatext and will use them as a criterion to catalogue them.
Here below you find all the tag of a demonstrative metatext. So, if you don't know HTML, you may anyhow copy these ones and paste them: they should be positioned after the tag <head> and before the tag </head>.
- <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="Here you should write the keywords that pick out your site">
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="Write here a very short description of your site ">
- Let's say for instance that you have realised a page about caving in Molise, you'll then write:
- <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="cave, Molise, caving, geology, rocks, mountain... ">
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="Caves in Molise: geology, photos and all the info to visit them.">

- Note 1:
- We must aknowledge that, because of the incredible growth of number of Internet sites during last years, searching engines have become more and more ineffective to get found in the web.
This is so much truer for who's writing for passion and cannot rely on big networks preferential channels.
- Note 2:
- Some engines (Yahoo and others)do not catalogues site while they are entirely under construction (neither we do): so don't point out your site as far as you have not put down a good number of pages.
