Pictures and text

Next Page Previous Page Back to Routes

Pictures in the text are very appreciated and help to give an idea of what you are describing. However, if you don't know some useful tricks pictures sometimes make the page heavy and difficult to read. The tips we propose are about measurements and dimensions of the pictures.

Insert the measurements of an image
Confront the two tags here below, both insert the image Canyon in our page:
Tag 1
<img src="canyon.jpg" border="0" alt="Canyoning">

Tag 2
<img src="canyon.jpg" width=432 height=301 border="0" alt="Canyoning">

In the first case however, the dimension of the photo are not supplied and the computer, as he receives and shows the text, will leave no propre space in the pagination. The space will be created when the picture arrives and will make the text slide lower: if there are many pictures text will keep jumping down and will practically prevent one from reading the page till the the last picture is uploaded.
In the second case on the contrary, the dimensions of the foto are fixed previuosly and your browser will leave the necessary space from the very beginning: the text consequently will immediately be correctly paginated.
If for you pages you are employing a generator (Way B) instead of an editor (Way C), it will be better anyhow to look at what it writes when you insert a picture: if it leaves out the dimensions you may insert them manually, or, and it would perhaps be better, choose an other program.

Dimensions of a picture
To make your pages quick to read also for those who have a slow connection to Internet, the best thing would be to insert in the text a small copy of the picture as well, so that one may, by a simple click, re-call the original.
That way you'll be able to insert a lot of pictures in your text without making your page heavy and leaving to your visitors to decide wich picture to visualize extended.
A practical instance:

Canyoning
Canyoning in Italian Appennines

Tag employed:
<a href="canyon.jpg"><img src="cany.jpg" width=144 height=100 border="0" alt="Canyoning"></a>

To be more "elegant" you can figure to use a page for the picture like in the exemple below.

Tag employed:
<a href="cany.html"><img src="cany.jpg" width=144 height=100 border="0" alt="Canyoning"></a>
