It is difficult that you will find a real occasion here but his a good place where to ask information about all Africans countries. Quite a lot of persons willing to share their African experiences, few posts without a reply. A good group.

A very popular newsgroup. A lot of persons with different point of views on the Asian countries: a lot of posts to ask where to buy the cheapest computer or cameras in Hong Kong or Bangkok, night life and the like... but also other persons trying to organize trips and trekking to less known places trying get in touch with other aspects of the Asiatic countries. Worth keeping an eye on it.

Like all the other rec.travel subcategories: worth have a look if you are planning to visit the related countries. Here the discussion mainly deal with "how to get there" and permits but also topic regarding Australian (and obviously aboriginal) culture.

An Australian newsgroup dedicated to "bushwalking" namely what happens if you decide to walk through a country like Australia. A great group, one of those you can find inspiration for a future travel. Lots of suggestions about equipment, places and tracks.

A very lively group, lots of commercial ad but also the possibility to dialog and share experiences with other persons, a good subcategory for rec.travel.

It is difficult to cope with all the commercial ad and understand which one are good and which not. The newsgroup is mostly visited by the American neighbors. Here and there you still find some persons exchanging opinions about the best places to visit.

It's not difficult to tell from the name, isn't it? A newsgroup related to anything regarding traveling in (or to) Europe. Apart from some sporadic SPAM posts are quite focused and stick to the main theme. You can find messages talking about good-and-cheap restaurants (the so-calledmiracles) in London, Rome or Paris, you can discuss the best air companies to get to Europe (lots of people from the States!) but also find good suggestion for special places to visit or to stay. Good group, interesting discussions, it receives around 100/150 messages a day! A good group for the subcategory rec.travel.

A good resource for those who plan to camp in Germany, may be sometime a bit too "technical".

A "misc" group for the German travellers, this means you can discuss everything does not really fit into the other travel related groups.

A good newsgroup where to ask and give advices and suggestions about U.K. youth-hostels.

A good british newsgroup. Most discussed places is obviously Scotland but they don't forge other regions of G.B. Discussions are interesting, definitely worthwhile having a look if you are planning a trekking through Scottish Highlands

The sailing newsgroup of U.K. A bit more technical than the others, they discuss very much of sails, bilge-pumps and ship models. A good group anyway.

Caravan tavelling. Worthwhile just if you are planning a trip to Great Britain or some close by European country, for the rest just a lot of discussion about portable TVs and other specific equipment.

The great english tradition, just for this reason probably less inclined to tourism and travels and more oriented to races, traditions and technical questions. Not a great resource for travellers but for sure a great place where to ask for technical advices.

"it" category travel newsgroup (that "viaggi" stays for "travel").Generally a good group, sometime some good travel account. Usually people from different regions are very proud to address you to the best places of their region.

A newsgroup dedicated to the most well known rail ticket for European young people. As many post deal anyway with tips for cheap traveling or travel stories you don't really need to be European to participate this group.

Lot of posts, advertise, technical suggestions, people looking for a "lift", it's for sure a newsgroup where to look for if you are going to plan a holiday to the Mediterranean Sea.

Cycling in Italy. A good group, not just technical suggestions.

People that experience Italian mountains in different manners, it's a very good group anyway and here and there you can find good suggestions and people ready to start interesting discussions.

Here you can find the Italian divers. Interesting group for the entire area of Mediterraneo and Adriatico anyway.

The Dutch travellers newsgroup.

A very lively newsgroup, the real problem for this (and some of the above) newsgroups is obviously the language but generally you can easily start a discussion in English. Just try it!

Spanish travellers!

Very popular newsgroup but relatively few SPAM. A lot of people ready for discussion on any topic regarding traveling in the U.S. or Canada. The most discussed topics are Hotels and other accommodations in all possible American and Canadian regions. It can definitely be a starting point to organize a trip to these countries.
