In our opinion the best newsgroup about hiking. Here you can find advices, suggestions and share your experiences with other hikers. The atmosphere can be really similar to that you have while hiking with friends. A great group for those who love walking

A group dedicated to the visit of nature, really great. It is discussed any aspects: equipments (maps, backpacks, boots...), places (mostly U.S.A.), travel accounts. A point of reference for who intend to visit the nature of his own country.

An Australian newsgroup dedicated to "bushwalking" namely what happens if you decide to walk through a country like Australia. A great group, one of those you can find inspiration for a future travel. Lots of suggestions about equipment, places and tracks.

A good british newsgroup. Most discussed places is obviously Scotland but they don't forge other regions of G.B. Discussions are interesting, definitely worthwhile having a look if you are planning a trekking through Scottish Highlands

Not very popular but mostly dedicated to those skiing that . Mostly visited by people from U.S.A., lots of discussion about American ski places, a way to keep you up-to-date with snow state. Of all ski newsgroup we found it the only one could be of any interest to a traveller, le us know if your opinion is different...

The starting point newsgroup for who loves traveling on his bike. A great one with a good equilibrium between more bike-technique discussions and those about "tour" and rides. Americans post are, as usual, the majority but these bikers are really international: France, Austria, Patagonia... definitely a group to visit if you think the bicycle is your mean!.

The main newsgroup about sailing. Sailing as a way of traveling but also as a way of living following the attitude you can find in many of the post in the group. Quite a lot of interesting discussion for who love sailing: if you want to know the best quays in the Greek islands o want to ask about the best charter at the Bahamas, this is your newsgroup.

Here people try to recruit crew (and also skippers) for their sailing ships, while crews and skippers try to be recruited... Lot of crossposts with alt.sailing but more than a good occasion from time to time, worth trying. Mostly American posts but you know... these seamen are always traveling all around the world...

Dedicated to tall-old-historical-usually-sailing ship. Not very popular but if you have patience you may find somebody trying to find crew for the "e;Cutty Sark Race"e; one of the most famous old sailing ship race.

The sailing newsgroup of U.K. A bit more technical than the others, they discuss very much of sails, bilge-pumps and ship models. A good group anyway.

Lot of posts, advertise, technical suggestions, people looking for a "lift", it's for sure a newsgroup where to look for if you are going to plan a holiday to the Mediterranean Sea.

A very popular newsgroup. Dedicated to everything that has to deal with paddles (obviously mainly kayaks and canoes).

The topic is clear from the title. Not many posts though... may be in the future...

Everything regarding those boats build to go for a stroll and not for races. Mainly suggestions about equipment, not many threads about places and courses.

If you want to build yourself you boat, this is your newsgroup. It is discussed any aspects of building and maintaining a boat to the most technical details. Models building techniques, suggestions, tricks. A great discussion group though not so directly related to traveling.

A newsgroup related to boats of any kind. Most discussions deal with technical stuff.

The "rec.travel" subcategory dedicated to cruises. You can find opinions on the best courses but there are more commercial ad than real threads, we include it just to cover this way of traveling.

"rec.travel" subcategory related to air traveling. Tons of posts, too much commercial ad as flames about the best and worst airlines. Mostly offers of LAST MINUTE flights. If you have patience enough to examine carefully all the posts you might found some real occasion and some useful suggestion.

A very interesting newsgroup. Here you can discuss road (car) trips. Because is very visited by U.S. people, the long and beautiful American highways are the everyday discussion but from time to time you can find also other very interesting post of people trying to organize road trips through Nepal or ex-U.R.S.S.

Caravan tavelling. Worthwhile just if you are planning a trip to Great Britain or some close by European country, for the rest just a lot of discussion about portable TVs and other specific equipment.

A newsgroup dedicated to riding. Posts regarding horses as "travel mates" or horseback travel accounts are quite rare, not OFF-TOPIC though!. It is anyway a point of reference for everything that regards riding, you can find suggestions about saddling, forages and everything that more in general concerns horses. Very lively and popular group.

The great english tradition, just for this reason probably less inclined to tourism and travels and more oriented to races, traditions and technical questions. Not a great resource for travellers but for sure a great place where to ask for technical advices.
